Dark abandoned hospital corridor

Independent Game Development Studio

Independent games. Strange worlds.

We create games built around atmosphere, perspective and fun.

Currently developing — Forgotten Self

A small studio building strange, atmospheric and fun games.

Bardo Games is an independent game development studio focused on creating atmospheric experiences where gameplay, narrative and environment are closely connected.

Our current project, Forgotten Self, explores fragmented memory, distorted perception and unconventional ways of experiencing a story.

We are building the game independently, experimenting with gameplay perspectives, environmental storytelling, visual language and interactive narrative as development progresses.

What we're building.

FORGOTTEN
SELF

Some memories should stay buried.

A psychological horror experience built around fragmented memories, distorted perception and a past that refuses to remain buried.

Enter the Memories

You forgot who you were.

You forgot what you did.

But the truth never forgot you...

Forgotten Self is a psychological horror experience built around fragmented memories, distorted perception and a past that refuses to remain buried.

Every memory changes the world.

Each fragment shifts the way you see, move and survive — different perspectives force you to piece together what happened from inside the thing you can no longer trust; Your mind

Third person pursuit environment

Third Person

Movement, pursuit and navigation through unstable memories that shift while you're still inside them.

Surveillance camera perspective environment

Second Person

The player controls the character through remote surveillance cameras, forced to interpret the environment indirectly.

Investigation scene environment

Investigation

Observe scenes, reconstruct events and discover inconsistencies in what appears to have happened.

Places that remember you.

A foggy degrading maze of corridors

01

The Maze

A constantly degrading space where memories start collapsing into each other.

Abandoned hospital corridor

02

The Hospital

An abandoned medical facility explored indirectly through security cameras.

Empty nighttime street in the rain

03

The Street

A fragmented childhood memory unfolding during a nighttime pursuit.

Abandoned industrial factory interior

04

The Factory

An abandoned industrial complex where stealth and pursuit dominate the experience.

Dim staircase in an apartment building

05

The Building

A police investigation where every clue seems to contradict another.

Memory is unreliable.

What you see is not always what happened.

Environments / Story

A Maze Built From Memories

The maze evolves through multiple instances. As the player progresses, weather deteriorates, objects from previous memories begin appearing, and environments start bleeding into one another until the maze no longer belongs to itself.

Designing Horror From a Second-Person Perspective

One of Forgotten Self's main experiments is a hospital sequence where the player never views the character through a conventional camera. Instead, they watch themselves move through surveillance cameras distributed across an abandoned hospital.

Design

Building Puzzles Around Surveillance

Puzzles in the hospital are designed specifically around the second-person camera mechanic. Information is scattered across feeds, and solving a puzzle often means reading the same room from angles that were never meant to be combined.

Environments / Gameplay

Making an Abandoned Hospital Feel Functional

The electrical room puzzle is where the hospital stops feeling like a set and starts feeling like a building that once worked. Restoring power means interacting with circuit breakers and fuses that look and behave like the real thing.

Art / Design

Using Scale to Create Unease

We've been experimenting with massive distant objects and megalophobia. Forgotten Self sometimes uses impossible scale to make memories feel physically overwhelming — structures or shapes that are too large to be where they are.

Level Design

Designing a Factory for Pursuit

The factory is a large industrial environment designed specifically for stealth and pursuit — approximately 9000 square meters across multiple levels, with open manufacturing areas, storage, offices, changing rooms, a cafeteria and machinery.

AI / Gameplay

Creating the Factory Pursuer

We're developing an enemy for the factory sequence — a figure dressed in black, with a black hat, a high-collared dark coat, and a face hidden in darkness. We're experimenting with AI behavior rather than scripting a setpiece.

Gameplay / Story

Building a Memory Around a Bicycle

A childhood sequence involves a child riding a bicycle while being pursued by a vehicle. The sequence transitions between different gameplay perspectives and eventually leads into the factory.

Story / Gameplay

Building a Crime Scene That Doesn't Add Up

A nighttime apartment building investigation where the player investigates a murder while exploring contradictory evidence. The building is full of locked doors, a few residents, blood traces and the a mistery.

Why Forgotten Self Keeps Changing Perspective

Forgotten Self intentionally changes perspective depending on the memory — third person, second-person surveillance, investigative gameplay, cinematic sequences. Perspective itself is part of the narrative language.

Finding the Visual Identity of Forgotten Self

The visual direction grounds itself in realistic environments and then lets surreal intrusions break the realism — abandoned architecture, darkness, rain, analog video, surveillance monitors, industrial decay and fragmented visual memories.

Building the Sound of Forgotten Self

We're experimenting with environmental ambience, distant thunder, rain, heartbeat systems, positional sounds, whistles heard at uncertain distances, industrial ambience, tension crescendos and transitions between reality and memory.
